To establish a connection between your website and Sucuri Backups using an SFTP private key, follow these steps.
- Sign in to your Sucuri Account.
- Locate the Backups column and click the icon for the website you wish to update.
- Click the More menu in the upper-right corner (above Backup Now), then select Settings.
- Navigate to Private Key, paste your SFTP Private Key contents into the text box, and click Save.
- Select SFTP/FTP, enable Use account-wide private key authentication, and configure the following:
- Server Address: Enter your host IP address or domain name.
- Port number: Typically set to 22.
- SFTP Username: Enter the SFTP username provided by your hosting provider.
- FTP directory path: Specify the complete path to your website content folder (example: /home/username/public_html/).
- Protocol: This should automatically default to SFTP.
- Click Save.
- After completing your configuration, click Backups (Domain) in the upper-left corner.
- Click Backup Now, provide a name for your backup, and select Continue.

NOTE: Private key settings apply account-wide—only one private key can be used across all websites in your account.
